Fork Cap Bolts

#1 PostAuthor: BigZCas » Mon Sep 11, 2017 7:19 pm

I have set my forks and Cap nuts (see picture attached) as per most pictures on the net, with the stanchions level with the top of the yoke.
But looking at the Haynes manual tonight it says to set the cap flange level with the top of the yoke so that some of the cap fits into the yoke :??
Is there a correct way :?:
Does it really matter :?:
Opinions appreciated please.

So what should be flush with the top yoke ?
The stanchion tops or the top not flange as per the PDF and the Haynes manual ?
One thing that cant be correct with the PDF though Dave.
It calls for the torque to be higher on the 3 top yoke bolts than the 2 bottom yoke bolts, that can't be right surely :??

the outer edge of the top nut should be flush with the yoke . the top yoke pinch bolts are in inch pounds & the lower are in foot lbs

Thats a good download. Im just starting my rebuild of a 76 A4 and was wondering which manual to purchase or the pdf download was informative. With the electrics not being my strong point, im after a detailed explanation of the wiring setup etc.

This is a critical setting.

The bike may NOT handle well if done wrong!!!

You may encounter speed wobbles & nervous handling if incorrectly set.

Corner stability will be compromised.

The brakes may not be so effective either
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
