I am looking to put if possible a set of ST barrels and head inc camshafts onto a Z1 bottom end. Is this going to be a ball ache of a job it is it a simple job. My concerns being the the MK11 ST having different cam chain etc.
Thanks

MK2 barrel and head are the same as z900/1000 so will fit straight on. (round camcover fits too)
Just check that the Z9 crankcase mouths will take the bigger dia liners.
Some early ones need opening up slightly (simple to do with a hand file or rotary burr but best done on bare cases to make it an easy job)
Mk2 cams are the same as all z1/z1000 but it is the 32 teeth sprockets that are different to match the bigger 16 tooth crank and longer 124 lo link chain.
Simply fit earlier 30 teeth sprockets to match the z1's 15 tooth crank and 122 link chain.

Cheers Rob much appreciated. These are 72 cases so will check to see if need opening up. The barrels have a new 1105 big bore kit fitted.

On my last project (MkII style engine - Z1000B4) I fitted the prettier round cam cover ..... but had to change the top idle sprocket so the cover would fit.
The MkII idler had an off-set bracket whereas the replacement was straight.
From the righthand style to the lefthand style:

Personally I wouldn't fit that block if you intend on giving it any hard work to do.
I would imaging that the barrels you are thinking of fitting are standard 1015 bored to the maximum 1105. this leaved the liners very thin at the bottom which can distort under hard work and rub the pistons. I have also known the liners to move in the block and very slightly warp.
Personally I'd try and find a standard 1025 block and bore it to 1075.
If however, you have to open up the crankcase mouths anyway (which I very much expect you will have to on 72 cases), I would have this spare block resleeved with bigger liners that can go out to 1325 like I did on the Saxon. You can then start at 1135 and go all the way to 1325 in 1 mm increments (piston supply dependant).
Yes it's going to cost you a piston kit, but if you stay with the 1105 it might no last long anyway.
Hope this helps, Will
