Hi all - Changed oil and filter on my 79 Z1000 but appears I have slightly overfilled as just over top line in sight glass - Can/should I remove a little by using a length of tube and symphon/suck out through the oil filler cap hole ?

Best not to run these old motors with too much oil in.
It will tend to force the excess out via the crank breather system I would guess.
Symptom of that would be wet oil in base of a standard air box.
Always fill mine lower than full mark and leave to stand overnight before trying to get a final level.
Some always seems to seep back down into the sump slowly over the next few hours after running.
Thin tube and a syringe or a longer tube and suck (carefully) will bring it back down slowly to the full line.
Petrol has been known to get into the oil pan through seepage - so a full oil level may actually rise over time if you have that problem.

Make sure you are testing the level with the bike level and off the center stand, its surprising how much diff its makes,i usually fill to the middle,a touch over the middle wont matter too much,if it bothers you just crack open the sump plug and drain some off.Paul J

if you do suck on the tube to start the syphon, new oil don't taste that that bad when it gets to your lips! or use something like a mitie vac and drain straight to its res ( pukka for brakes too) or failing that a big 'F off' syringe to start the syphon.
