I have a pair of ohlins shocks fitted to my z1000 which I assumed would be an upgrade to my previous Hagons. However in the IOM and generally when hitting large bumps they tend to bottom out easily.
So that got me wondering about the spring rates the code on the springs is 480-03 049

Any idea what the rating on this is and if I can source some heavier springs.

So what are you guys running on yours?

First question is how stiff have you set the pre-load? Winding this up should usually make a big difference.

Secondly, even Superbikes bottom out at parts of the IOM, you don't have to stand long at Ballaugh bridge during a race to witness this fun

The 00480-03 springs are progressive 18-27 N/mm and standard fit on KA 140 S36P piggy shocks for Z1000.
You could have them upgraded to 00480-23 progressive 20.3-28.6 N/mm or better still replace the shock with fully adjustable KA 446 these are recommended for Zephyr 1100 but are the same length and work well.

I had this recently with mine, it turned out they was not bottoming out, the reservoir bottom was hitting the bolt head on the caliper torque arm, good job i had stainless bolts of the right size i turned the head down until i got the clearance i needed, problem solved.

There is a witness mark on the bottom of the reservoir!
Looks like some modding is needed.

Worth bearing in mind for anyone fitting piggy back shocks.

I will feed this back to Ohlins. Now i think of it have i seen the shocks mounted canister facing forward for this reason?

Fit an underslung rear caliper?

I have another set of the same shocks and one of them has a gouge mark in the same place so its obviously a common issue. (originally I thought that someone had been hamfisted with my other set)

I don't want to go the underslung route on this bike as apart from the wheels Its reasonably standard.
