Engine and Carb restoration .

#1 PostAuthor: James Bell » Mon Oct 23, 2017 3:13 pm

Hi folks , just bought a 1979 Z1000 , and will be embarking on a full overhaul and would appreciate if any members could recommend a good engine cleaning company ( vapour blasting and polishing ) the results from this process look impressive , also the Carbs could benefit from an overhaul and similar cleaning .
Cheers
James

RD Cox are also good and cheaper but they're based in Reading.
Hopefully someone will come along with a recommendation north of the border.

+1 for Steve Smethurst - after years of use (including some winter jaunts) - the finish is still perfect. :up

Steve Smethurst did my casings 11 yrs ago and still look mint but only use bike on dry days, beware, clean casings with plenty of hot soapy water and blow out all threads and oilways as residue is left behind after the cleaning process, I was meticulous with mine but at next oil change a small metal ball plopped out from the burnishing process :eek , christ knows how it was still in there and thankfully no damage done but could have been catsatrophic.
For polishing our very own club member Mikey is your man, great job and much cheaper than Mr Smethurst.
