The latest part of the jigsaw of parts to work through is the airbox
I am pretty sure there should be something in these two holes but what am I missing ??

I assume they are primarily there to reduce induction roar but do they have any effect on carburation when removed ...?

They did this in an attempt to get more air through the carbs .
It didn't, the only thing that changed was the noise of the intake suction; it increased but nothing changed on behalf of the power.
You can try to find another silencer (difficult and not cheap) or just leave it as it is. It has no effect on carburation.
