Well the A2 project rumbles on as I snatch bits of time in the shed - although the London to Brighton car run on Sunday was interesting to go and watch near my place - close by a bacon sarnie selling establishment.
I’ve got a specialist doing the carbs for me as they needed a thorough going over and a tidy up. I was asked whether there was a float height setting to start out with when rebuilding other than the liquid / manometer measurement once the bowls were back on. Anyone have a feel for this ? I recall Yamaha having float measurements for a dry carb when inverted (if you get what I mean).
This is for standard carbs on a US import (K)Z1000 A2.
Cheers Graham

Re: Carb float height
If your going to wet test them afterwards, as long as they all roughly the same it shouldn't matter too much but a starting point I try to get them all this ish.

Fantastic - just what I was after - thanks
What manual is that from by the way. I have a Kawasaki one, a Clymer and the Haynes book of lies. Couldn’t find it in anything last night - although I was rushing a bit

Aye I think the rule of thumb was 28mm.

Re: Carb float height
Hi Graham
keep in mind, when measuring the float height, to remove the gasket from the carb!
After the carbs are ready, do a wet check of the float height on a stand with a clear tube screwed in the hole of the bowl drain screw to see the height of the fuel level.
There is, after all, a difference in the fuel of the late seventies and now!
It's easier to check the level and to adjust it when the carbs are not mounted on the bike!
The fuel level should be between the top and bottom of the rim on top of the float bowl (4 mm of play).
Be sure to get the right mixture, not too rich, not too lean.
The fuel level is very important to get the bike starting and running correctly !
Good luck!
Philippe
