timing

hi all got z1a its running so i thought i would put strobe light on it to check. its got boyer bransden ignition plugged into no4 plug and its showing 2/3 on advance so swapped wires round from coil into box and its still showing 2/3 on advance plate not 1/4 any ideas what im doing wrong.

Sure you are on plug 4 lead? one coil feeds 1 and 4 the two outer pots,the other coil feeds 2 and 3 the two inner pots,trace hts back to coil outputs.

check the low tension wires. coil 1+4 = black. & yellow& red stripe
2+3 coil green. & yellow & red stripe

so there are black and green wires comin out of boyer box so connected to coils then swapped the green and black coil wires round still the same weird

Not sure how the Boyer thing works, but you would get this on the standard set up if the points cam was fitted 180 deg out.

That would mean removing the bolt from the advance unit and turn the cam and refitting.

You can go on to the Boyer website and print off the fitting instructions, i am not 100% sure but i think on some of the kits all four plugs fire at the same time, there was/is an issue with rotor positioning due to the way Kawasaki made things.

It does run and tick over but it drops u rev it and goes up again the boyer system isnt new it was on bike when i bought it so prob quite a few years old .one thing i did notice i get 12.5 volts with ignition on to coils if i disconnect the the power lead to the box .if i connect it i only get 11 ish volts goin to coils just wondering if its had it and maybe better goin to points
