Cam cover bolts.

#1 PostAuthor: ianali » Thu Nov 16, 2017 1:57 pm

Have taken my cam cover off. Happy to say all the threads seem good. When I brought the bike the cover had 12 10 mm hex head bolts and 4 hex socket cap head (allen) bolts. These 4 were positioned at front of engine 2 on either outer side. Threads on all 16 are the same, apart from the hex bolts having a longer thread length of approx 6 mm extra. Anyone have a reason for this other than a previous owner lost 4 so used what he could find? Thanks for looking.

Probably longer bolts used when threads got stripped and re tapped deeper...

Paul. I probably didn't describe well but bolts are the same length and thread. The thread runs 6 mm further on the 4 odd bolts but wouldn't make any difference to the depth of tapped thread. Also all the internal threads are really good condition. Thanks anyway.

If it’s a J type head there are different sizes for the cam ends.
