I am getting ready to fit the sump on my Z1B and notice these holes which look like they should have dowels

Can anyone tell me their purpose ?

Thanks Chris

Oil gallery, in the z1000j book it specifically mentions them.

They both have dowels in them. The book calls them 'Knock Pins' and they serve to locate the gasket and sump.
The front has a long bolt through it.
The rear drains oil from the crank case breather.

Hi Chris
I suppose it's the engine of a Z900 or a Z1000A...
since the holes are at the bottom of the lower cranckcase they don't need dowels. Just put the sump with a new gasket and O ring on it and bolt it up.
At the same place between the upper and lower cranckcases the same holes appear but there you need a dowel to put in to align both parts.
If it's a J engine I can't help you...sorry.
Regards
Philippe
