Hi just joined from Aberdare South Wales had my Z since 1976. Hasn't been started since 1990. Have recently fitted high compression 10.25 to 1 pistons 1045ccAction Fours which iv'e had since1990. Has high lift cams fitted in 1977. Have fitted new rings and bores honed, new coils, new Boyer Bransden ignition new hard plugs which were recommended in 1977. Carbs been cleaned large jets fitted in 1997 Spark looks good plugs wet. Can I start it!! no chance It just doesn't want to know. Have had bikes all my life beaten me. Anybody know someone in South Wales who will look at it?
Re: Z1B
No rush then?
Put some basics up chap, compression test, cam timing, ignition timing etc....

Re: Z1B
Valve timing 28pins compression good bad memory not sure if high lift cams had different number of pins been 40 years mind and no literature away at. Moment i will try those numbers when I get home. Many thanks to all replies
Re: Z1B
When did it last run? If the plugs are wet and it sparks it should at least fart... all this is assuming the cams are timed right. One would also hope there has been no fuel in it since the carbs were cleaned... also they don’t always clean first time. Have you tried new plugs?

I don't know why but my first thought was this is how to get sense from Hobbo.......
Re: Z1B
Basics first, if you have a good spark as you say try removing the air filter, if it has one, and spraying easy start in the throat. If it runs on that you know you have a fuel problem.
Re: Z1B
if it has a good spark & is getting fuel it should at least attempt to fire. it may be down to it firing in the wrong place or valve timing is incorrectly set a compression test should determine if the valve timing is out & put a strobe light on it whilst turning it over will give some indication if its firing in the correct order
