I have been having my engine rebuilt for my chopped A4, 1045cc forged high compression wossner pistons, welded and indexed crank, gas flowed head, ape bit here and there bronze valve guides, tsubaski camielia cam chain all cometic gaskets.
It is going to be for street use.
So the dilemma is before shiming the head would it be better to fit a pair of performance camshafts or use the standard cams and go with a set of new flatslides, I've been out of work with various operations from a smash I had 28 mths ago so funds are tight so it's one or the other for now.
I have got a big valve head which has damage and needs machining which I could build up later with decent cams.
Anyone have any recommendations for carbs or cams with the above set up.

I'd go carbs before cams, I think you'll see more effect from the better air flow on standard cams than you would with high lift cams and the restriction of standard carbs

My old Z1000 was a 1075 Wiseco, gas-flowed head, std cams & RS36 carbs.... ran 1/4mile in 11.5 secs at 120mph.

Would it be ok on Rs36's or 34's

34's more than good enough for your spec!

My Z1000 ran nice - 50mpg on long runs, but a little bit "fluffy" on slow/town work with 36's.

Me Harris ran 34's with std Z1R motor and was sweet

What about with big valve head and a set of cams, that is the plan for the future, would like to buy one set of carbs (new) 34's or 36's

Just my opinion & yeh, I know the rest of that line !Any way rather you than me ! 34 -36 carbs = ( way over carbed - too big ) & you'll be wasting a bucket of money to go slower than a standard 900 with those fitted ! max you'll need is 28 mm or ( 29mm smooth bores ) Forget big valve , wild cams & gas flowing etc on a chopper. ..thats gives all top end performance ! you'll not be able to use that on a big like that ! Your better with std cams that have been dialled in properly ( google it ).....as gaining a bit more Torque & Mid-range is gunna far more usable - practical- enjoyable & give better reliability .

With the 1045 pistons and flowed head i'd quickly snap up these bargain Andrews X2 cams from DK on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332475049645 ... fresh=true
Set them at 106 lobe centres and stick on some 28mm carbs off a Z1R or the like.
Pod filters or stacks, 117.5 to 120 mains and 0.6mm air corrector jets and it will shift like a scolded cat and still pull strong from tickover.

What carbs to look out for then, z1r 28mm, 29mm smooth bores, what about some vm flatslides from a gsxr
