Swingarm Bearing Removal

#1 PostAuthor: wheelysteve » Wed Dec 20, 2017 9:47 pm

Anybody have any tips for removing the needle roller bearings from a Z1000 swingarm. They are seized in. Not even a hint of grease in the swingarm tube so these things are well corroded in place.

Currently soaking in a tray of WD40.

Hi Steve
the needle bearings are gone anyway and you'll have to replace them(2 or 4 depending on the model A1 or A2)
If the swingarm needs a new coat of paint I would suggest you heat it at the location of the bearings and tap out the bearings with a long piece of steel and a hammer. Be carefull not to damage the swingarm!
Once they're out you can clean the inner portion of the swingarm and remove the rust. Repaint it, put new bearings and plenty of grease in and off you go.
Good Luck!

Be animal, you can't save them. I've had to grind a groove through the outer on some particularly stubborn ones. Press, slide hammers, drifts erc all failed.
Cheers,

Mark.

OK, a mixture of my engineering skills :eek , my collection of watchmakers hammers, chisel, grinders and brute force has saved the day.

Mostly brute force actually
