What engine case sealant?
I'm going to reassemble my engine soon following having the cases vapour blasted and was wondering what sealant is recommended for the top to bottom case joint?
I have some ThreeBond TB1215 grey silicone sealant but am not sure if this is the best thing to use. I've also heard of ThreeBond 1105B a.k.a. Kawabond and also MIchel semi-drying gasket cement.
Any recommendations from people who have been there and done this?
Thanks in advance, Rob

Re: What engine case sealant?
I've used the Michel gasket cement on my GPz crankcase joints with no problems.

Re: What engine case sealant?
always used kawabond or yamabond or the maker equivalent. never had a problem.
Re: What engine case sealant?
Had some Three Bond left after the Kettle rebuild and that worked a treat, so i used it again in my A4 re build,
shouldn't be a problem, more or less doing the same job.

Re: What engine case sealant?
Thanks for the replies.
I was wondering if I should use a silicone type that cures (like V-Tech or Threebond 1200 type) or a semi-drying type (like Threebond 1100 or Michel).
It seems that people have used both types successfully on cases so I'm probably over thinking it and will just use the Threebond 1215 silver sealant that I already have.
Cheers,
Rob

Yeah, that was recommended to me too by a mate who rebuilds his (car) racing engine regularly.

Kawabond every time. Make sure mating faces are fully
degreased with something like brake/clutch cleaner.
