A1 had the key and a small bolt A2 had no key and a big bolt that was the main difference - that, paint and the fork legs turned round

Hi Johny
correct about the paint scheme and the saddle cover but the original wheels on a Z1000A2 had spokes. A lot of people and even dealers changed them to cast wheels but those where not the factory finish.

Correct - the dealers got Kawasaki cast wheels around then so they were an option which a lot of people, and on some of the smaller bikes too. My brother worked for one at the time they had a store full of unwanted wire wheels which eventually either went to the dump or the front wheels were sold to people who built some kind of horse racing trap.

Also various carb differences, diaphragm fuel tap, lower bars, think the original tyres changed to Jap Dunlop Gold Seals too. And front calipers where obviously different being behind the fork legs with slightly smaller pistons.

Hi Guys
in the US the seats didn't have a seat strap, in the EU version (and maybe other regions of the world) they had one.
If you want to know if your seat originally had a seat strap, look at the seat pan, if there's a nut welded on each side of the rim you can attach a strap.
Cheers

Philippe, I was for 5 years .....1978-83 the Manager of a quite large North London Kawasaki & Ducati main dealership ( Enfield Kawasaki Centre ) so when I say the A-2s came standard in the UK with Factory Mag wheels , trust me because it did !....... it was my privilege & job to know them very well & then to sell them .
