Todays quiz...

Should the Z1R have the thin sprocket cover fitted as per Z1, Z900 ?

This is the one behind the main chain cover, just over the front sprocket.

You mean this.
All my Z1R's had them.
If you haven't got one i'd fit one as it keeps all the crap from the chain spreading all over the clutch mech etc.

Mine has the foam and the perforated metal cover in good nick but doesn't have the thin metal guard. I can't see one on he parts diagram either. Pretty sure this has never had one fitted as everything else seems to be on here which is normally ditched.

The cover plate was not fitted to Z1R. They were only on Z1 - z900. Although I have one fitted on my Z1000A2.

Hi Chris
I fitted one on my Z1R, just in case... if the sprocket nut becomes loose for one reason or another you might hear it scratch against the plate and have the time to stop before it comes off. You never know it might help.

Philippe

Thanks for the replies. I think I've got a spare lurking in the garage so I might as well fit it to add a bit more protection.

The sprocket nuts seem to have a habit of loosening off even with the lock washer in place. Are the self locking ones sold by Z power any better ?

Hi Steve

i have no idea about the self locking nuts. I allways use a NEW lock washer and fasten the nut to the correct torque as mentioned in the shop manual.
I allso bend the lock washer at two opposit places and hope it stays in place when riding at the speed of 120 Km/hr on the highway...so far so good!
Greetings
Philippe
