Drain Fuel Tank

#1 PostAuthor: AlanB » Fri Feb 02, 2018 4:01 pm

Stupid question but whats best way to drain fuel tank (full) on my 79 Z1000 - Use jiggle syphon to drain most fuel then drain rest using drain point on tap ? Also the fuel/vacuum hoses seem tough to remove from petcock - any tricks here ? Cheers All.

Get a big funnel underneath the tap, remove the bowl, let it run into big jerry can,if the hoses are that hard to remove would say they are age hardened or have reacted to ethanol in fuel, cut them off and fit ethanol proof hoses.Had a bike not long back were the ethanol had eaten into the inside of the fuel pipes and dumped the residue in the carbs, looked like black mouse crap!

You can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter

Thanks Paul - Do you mean drain from the carbs rather than the petcock ? Why remove the float bowl ? Thanks mate.

No Alan,i mean the bowl underneath the tap,its removed by unscrewing it,watch the little mesh filter inside is not lost,if its a standard type z tap.Your post does seem to suggest a vacumn type tap though which is different,in that case take off one of the feeds to the carbs and drain using that , put in prime setting if it has one.

I didn’t think the Z1000A2 onwards fuel tap had a bowl ?
I think Paul just means empty tank from Fuel tank tap. Earlier models had a half sphere bowl to base of tap. Hope this helps !
