Coil question.

Is it possible that one side of a double lead coil can breakdown, the coils on my bike are the originals, but no.2 pot keeps miss firering it pops back into the air box and sometimes the plug sparks from side to point not from tip to bend. Or could it be a pilot jet fault, have had the head off for oil leak, shim gaps all set to .15 carbs been cleaned and flushed through, it just won't tick over right and pops? Baffled.

Think lean mixture at tickover on no 2 would do that David. Have you colour tuned them? Wouldnt cause the plug issue though.

Yes I did colour tune them last week, all worked fine then, went to start it today, run fine on three but no 2 cylinder not getting as hot as the others , have swapped the plugs about, found one duff plug, changed but still erratic, might put new plugs in and try again, if I can get it going on four will double check the colour tune. Plug does get sort of wet, not sure if it's oily residue had new valve stem seals, valve done and new gaskets all rou do, head done by professional garage.

Probably that dodgy foriegn exhaust thats doing it. Probably best you put a 4 into 1 on it

Lol Warren, it's got a 4 into 1 on, it's my Z1R. The Z1000a1 fired up fine, apart from 1 plug, but then it is a 40 year old one, treating that to new plugs before mot

Still on it when I got it. One of the main reasons I went for that one. Swopped the seat cover, need to add a strap and 2nd front disc then I'll be happy.

They are the original American plastic ones, got metal ones on my z1000, won't use that in the wet though, it will be like the old days, sparking and cracking all over, must admit never thought about the cap, will try swapping it over see if that makes any difference, cheers Paul.

Time to get shut of the old Nail David....
My original offer was £1500, but given it now needs a total engine rebuild I'll go £500 .... if you deliver of course.

You could swap the coils over and see if the misfire move, that would eliminate the coil.
