Alloy wheel sizes

#1 PostAuthor: H2R » Sat Mar 10, 2018 12:02 pm

I've just seen a photo of a 1979 Z1000 Mk2 in a FB post from the Bike70 group->

Can anyone tell me the wheel sizes please? I'm hoping they are 18 inch diameter, but the front looks as though it may be 19 inch. Particularly interested in the rear rim width too.

What I'm looking for is a pair of 18 inch seven spoke alloy wheels, rear must be WM3.50. I already have a nice pair but the rear's only a WM3.00.

Thanks

Pretty sure they are all 19" except for the ZIR, some of which had 18".

Hi H2R
the rim size for a Z1000A3 (MK2) is:
front: 19 inch
rear :18 inch
I'm not sure about the width but I think it's the same as for the wire-spoke wheels
front: 1,85 inch
rear : 2,15 inch
the tires are not tubeless, so they need an inner chamber
standard mountings for the tires are:
front: 3.25 x 19
rear: 4,00 x 18
mind that you need a tire with the speed indicator H ( to 210 Km/h)
If you want to mount a wider tire at the rear think about the width of the swing arm!
The Z1000Z1R (D1 1978) had 18 inch wheels front and rear
The Z1R2 (D2 and D3) had at the front an 19 inch wheel and at the rear an 18 inch wheel.
Perhaps there's someone on the forum who can correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a Z1300 front wheel with spaced-off Z1000ST discs that I used to use on my Z1000J before I fitted a Dymag. It's a 2.15 x 18.
Finding a Kawasaki rear wider than 2.50 will be a struggle. You need to be looking for Marvic Morris wheels, though they're not cheap...

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

The reason I'm looking for a WM3.50 seven spoke rear wheel is that I need it for my race bike that I ride under CRMC rules. I'm allowed 'modern' wheels provided they look like period alloy/mag wheels. I already have a pair of really nice GPZ550 wheels that look the business, however the rear is too narrow for the tyres I want to use.

I could buy Marvic Morris lookalike wheels but last time I looked they were the thick end of £3000 a pair; Campagnolo do some similar ones, similar price, and that's because they're magnesium. I'd prefer alloy, more user friendly.

I'll keep looking and if I find some I'll post a reply.

Thanks again for your help.

Stephen
