Engine number in Z900
Guys,
I have a Z900A5, with the engine number Z1E 063131.
US import, VIN states manufacture 06/76, chassis number Z1F509809.
From Pierre's Kawasaki page, that engine number seems to be coming up as 1973, Z1?
http://www.kawa-z1.com/technics.shtml
Any ideas? The barrels look like they are faded black, but the cases and head don't.

Thank you, it's interesting, the bike is low mileage and although tatty doesn't look to have been molested, wheel date codes etc are good!

I thought the 509809 would fall in the Negraska A4s (A5)?

Hi
yes the engine number is absolutely Z1B. With the odd numbering from the US manufactured frames with the "5" in front it's confusing sometimes, even for an expert! As shown above.

Hi
some info from the German forum
USA plant ( Lincoln Nebraska )
KZ 900 A4 ( 1976 ) : Aug. 75 - June 76
Z1F - 500.001 - 510.340
Z1E - 086.001 - 138.846
KZ 900 A5 ( 1977 ) : Jul 76 - Sep. 76
Z1F - 510.341 - 515.578
Z1E - 086.001 - 138.846
as you can see the frame numbers are known, the specific numbers of the engines that were factory build in not, only the range is known.
