Chroming wheel rims
Has anyone experience of having wheel rims rechromed? My bike is a Z900 A4 and I have a good front rim and a pitted rear rim, which I am hoping to repair with silver solder and then have them chromed. I am interested in recommendations and some idea of the cost involved. Also, if anyone has a half decent rear rim with a date code around 5G or 5H I would be very interested. Cheers, Mick

Re: Chroming wheel rims
No direct experience but whilst chatting with my chromer he mentioned many chromers end up with enlarged spoke holes making them dangerous as the spokes could pull through. Dont know if he was just larging it up or not as I wasnt havent rims chromed. Just thought it worth mentioning.

I used a Brigg in leeds, the wheels came up okay, but they polished out the stamps, said the pitting was rough, which it was a bit.

I don't want to lose the stamps or there's no point keeping the original rims. I took the rims to Quality Chrome in Hull and they stripped the original chrome off but said they couldn't polish out all the pitting without making the rims too thin so they couldn't be done. I have just got a very good front rim from the US. The chrome is ok but there's no rust pits, I could use it as it is but if I have the rear rim chromed the front will look crap, mainly due to the original finish to the rim under the chrome, hence I would like to find a good rear one if I can. Cheers, Mick

Re: Chroming wheel rims
I tried for a long time to find a really good A4 rear rim.
In the end I used a rim supplied by Zpower which is really good quality , looks almost identical and has no markings ( like the DID rims). They are made for them by an English wheel company.
You can see pics of them in a previous post by me last year.
