Carbs

#1 PostAuthor: DavidZ1R » Sat Mar 17, 2018 5:12 pm

Took my z1000a1 for its first mot yesterday, flew through, no problems, in fact impressed with the breaking performance on the machine, on the ride out to the station, first time it's been on the road, I noticed a flat spot from 1500 to 2500 revs, over 3000 revs pulls well, I assumed a spot of dirt in the pilots, do have cleaned them through, started it up again, starts well, but I notice pipes 1 and 2 get hotter quicker than 3 and 4, and also get a fair bit of water coming out of the drain holes, more on 1 and 2, all looks blue on the colour tune, any pointers ?

Hi Paul, the vacuum is equal on all cylinders, I assume the fuel feed is good, the tap has two outlets, on the colour tune it's blue at tick over, flashes yellow on the revs but settles back to blue, all the fuel levels were bang on, is the water a sign of rich or weak mixture, or just vapour in the modern fuel, it is super u leaded.

Water is just condensation, ie hot gases, cold pipe (more so in this weather). My thou' would drip constantly for a few minutes sometimes from cold. It's doubtless why the Standard pipes rot so quickly so make sure the drain holes are kept clear.

I hope they are matched, if not then bugger, never get another, just have to give it a good run and hope it settles itself, must admit it does ride nice, pleased with it, also found a little oil leak on the generator grommet, resealed that . If nowt else the mot boys made a mess drooling all over it

See if the cans seem equal when you cup your hands over the ends, not very scientific but may give you a clue!

How does it ride compared to the Shed David, given how similar they are mechanically other that the 28 cabs?.

Bit early to tell yet Garry, taking it very easy, new rings bedding to the newly honed bores, but I think the z1r has the edge for me, but I a a tad biased. If the beast from the east relents will give it another run out.
