Re: Recommended Oil
Semi synthetic is vastly superior to mineral oils of the day. The main reason why modern vehicles have extended service periods and achieve higher mileages.
As said make sure it is JASO approved for use with wet clutches.
If you ride a Duke chip fat will do

Pretty much what he says ^^
Incidentally, Ducati's are recommended to use a JASO MB grade oil as they have dry clutches
..To dispel another popular myth: Fully synth motorcycle oil will NOT make a wet clutch slip unless the clutch is bolloxed anyway.
If it's JASO MA or MA2 certified, it would have friction modifiers to prevent that happening, irrespective of being semi, synth fortified or fully synthetic build.
You can always check the JASO site to see if the oil IS actually certified, or if it is just labelled as JASO standard but with no certification number ... one wonders why certain UK based oil companies would not bother to submit if they are truly confident of meeting JASO ? All the reputable brands do.

An expanding collection of parts pretending to be a Z1100R and a Yamaha FZ750
Re: Recommended Oil
halfords semi synthetic motorcycle oil is perfectly adequate

Why do you need oil for a dry clutch? I am so confused

You don't.
They use a JASO MB grade oil BECAUSE they have a dry clutch ..... The oil goes nowhere near the clutch but it does need different properties to an MA grade oil that does go into the clutch

Got it Charlie...
MB is the lowest friction oil in the JASO classification. Interesting link you shared thanks.

Re: Recommended Oil
They update their references every month Zedhead.
It's always a good source for checking if oil has actually been certified (like Motul, Motorex, Silkolene etc) or if the manufacturers just claim it likely would do if submitted for testing
One wonders why, when most premium oil companies all submit to the internationally recognised body, that a large manufacturer like Rock do not appear to do so ?
It just says JASO xxx but does not carry the official mark or unique certification number on the product, nor does it appear on any of the JASO listings. Yes there is a small fee involved in getting certification, but is IS only a nominal fee. I would never buy a helmet that was not submitted for official approval, why would I use an oil that has not ?
Hence Rock will never ever go anywhere near any of my motors.
