Carb Air Screws Seized - Any thoughts on how to get them free?

#1 PostAuthor: cancunia » Mon Mar 26, 2018 5:45 am

I have a couple of seized in air screws on my A4 carbs, is there a tried & tested way to get them out? I thought about penetrating oil, and maybe some heat but am not really sure how hot is safe. I know my carbs have muck in them so wanted to get them fully apart to clean all the passageways.

Thanks

Maybe soak them in carb cleaner and then give them a sharp tap, worked with a set of stuck pilot jets I had.

An ultrasonic cleaner might be handy for cleaning the carbs too, good idea. Any thoughts on a good make / model to look out for? I did a search and see loads of results about carb cleaning, just wondered if there are any favourite cleaners to check out.

Thanks

I just bought a ‘gt sonic newest’ 6litre Chinese one off amazon. Looks like a little chip fryer, its the one with3 rotary knobs on it.

It's actually quite well made and has just cleaned up a set of z1000a carbs a treat. At 6litre size you need to break the set down and do one body at a time.

Obviously I can’t say how long it’ll last as I’ve only run it four times but so far I’m quite impressed. £170 i think.
