Yuasa Battery YB10L-A2 - Any Good?

#1 PostAuthor: cancunia » Thu Mar 29, 2018 9:50 am

I was thinking of getting one of these for my Z900 A4. Good price at Halfords and also Amazon. Looks like they need acid, but I've been told they're maintenance free?

Yuasa are very good batteries- quality products, better that Mottabat as they sometimes have issues.
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

buy a Jell battery

As it will last a lot longer and not die if gets low on charge, will charge back up and on low use-age bike last many years longer and never leek

your lead acid battery will only last 18 months to two years and boil with and battery conditioner left on it

I look after 40 odd bikes and the only thing that works is Jell battery's worth every penny, I have some that are now Five years old and I really do nothing with them, but disconnected over winter to stop slow draining

look at motobatt.com they can be got at a good price from ebay sellers

if you don't like the Yellow dust it with a bit of black spray paint :D

that's interesting what you say about Mottabat, I have 25 odd units and only have had one that was a bit odd replaced no questions at approx 18 months old, but others may have had different experiences

saying that I have a stack of dead Yuassa and other makes lead acid battery's and never got any ware with warranty claims on some well under a year old

I've had mixed experiences with Lead Acid batteries, I find that maintenance free LA batteries are normally ok. I have a Chinese LA battery that needs to be topped up on another bike, still working ok after 8 years. I agree that GEL or sealed batteries are the way to go. I have a sealed battery on another bike that's over 10 years old and still fine, holds it's charge no problem even now but it was expensive. I forget the brand but was made in the USA..

Never had an issue with Motobatt and they are reasonably priced.

Buy a Yuasa GEL battery. Have them in both of my zeds.

Had problems with Motabatt batteries, they are a bit temperamental - when bike not used regularly and kept on trickle charge.

If you buy online, be sure you can get the acid. I know a lot of people will not sell just acid, understandably they are losing a sale to the internet, also acid is going to be a lot tighter regulated. In the future you will be able to buy a dry battery online and find it almost impossible to get acid.

Sorry that’s what I meant, be sure you can get the acid locally, when it arrives dry.

Yeah, I wondered about the height too, seen both sizes advertised. Mine's a '76 A4, I'm away from home right now so can't be sure which battery size is correct. The Yuasa in the thread title is advertised at a reasonable price by Halfords, but looks like it'll need some acid at additional cost. Halfords Web Chat told me it does not need acid, but that was based on it not being mentioned in the ad, while others that need acid are shown advertised with an acid pack.
Either way, I'm probably going to go for a sealed battery once the dozens of other jobs to get my Z back on the road are done.

Just checked in my garage and a YB10 is a z650 battery , YB 14 is a z900/1000 battery .
The YB 14 battery will fit in the 650 battery case but it's too tall to close the seat .
