Cam Cap Bolts

Chaps, what's the thoughts on the torque settings for the cam cap bolts. The book says 104lbs ft , but i though that was very high and yesterday had a mare when one snapped when i was torquing them up. Luckily i managed to get it out, but im now concious of snapping another one. Paul

Way too much for M6 into ally .
Get a short ( 5 inch ) 10mm combi spanner and just nip them tight .

That setting is wrong,been aware of it for yonks,just nip them up as already said..

There are two different finish on bolts for these naturally from different years, Chrome and bare steel the chrome use the 7-8 ft/lb and the bare steel use 12 ft/lb, but i always use a short 10mm spanner and just nip them up like Z1parr says

104 inch/pounds not foot pounds but i assume you knew that.

Kev's very correct above...the weakest link will always be the softest material = i.e the 40+ year old alloy threads ! Each time they have been off & are then re-tightened again it will weaken the threads ..it can't help but to do that. Like Kev says just snug em up at 7 ft/lbs no more that all you need, as the constant upthrust on the Caps from the Valve springs act as giant spring washers. Heli - coiling with the head in situ is a proper pinless grenade !
