Chrome Removal

#1 PostAuthor: BigZCas » Sun Apr 08, 2018 8:03 pm

Advice please.
Some of the crank cases have been chromed at some point :(
Is it just a case of giving them to a chromers and asking them to remove but not re-chrome or is there a way of removing it myself ?
I would like them to end up polished.
Thanks

Hi BigZCas

I know it works for steel parts. The chromer can remove the chrome from those.
If the process can be reversed with alloy parts... I don't know. You better ask the chromer. He's an expert after all.
I know it's very hard to remove it yourself ...
Good luck

Chrome Restoration Svcs at Coventry, are going to strip the chrome off a couple of old Z13 engine cases and then mirror poilsh them for me; I dont fancy de-chroming at home, think you need concentrated Hydrochloric (Muriatic) Acid and a big container.

Cheers Tim
