I don't have a bike ramp, so what's the safest way to remove my A4's front wheel - thought about a racing car jack, block of wood and supporting the bars by ratchet strapping them the garage rafters?

Any suggestions - photos would be helpful.

if you place the bike in the centre stand, i would strap the bars to the rafters. It will pivot onto the rear wheel when you remove the front when the weight transfers to the back, the straps would just give a little more confidance

Bike on the center stand, Mrs sitting on the pillion seat,
Once wheel is off sit the front forks on a box,
Send the Mrs to make a cuppa,

Thanks - some useful tips, but I'll need to feed up the Mrs first...............just in case she's reading this!

I use a piece of heavy planking with a holes to alllow for filter and sump nut,use ordinary trolley jack to ease bike up till back wheel touches the deck,strap to garage roof to stabilze,or i use a quad jack with a couple of u shaped timbers under the bottom rails.

Thanks Paul, a couple of shaped timbers seems a good idea.

I guess if you don't have a Centre stand or paddock stand ! as of course there the easiest ways .....well you can ( with some one helping you ) put the side stand down & from the left side... pull the bike over towards you against the side stand while pressing down on the back of the seat ...the front wheel will come of ground & when that happens get your mate to then quickly put a jack or a chock it securely under the front of the sump pan = It will then leave your front wheel in the air a few inches. Best to first loosen all the required nut & bolts first, so as to not unsettle the balance of the unit too much.

Yep, have a centre stand and a paddock stand or two and you've given me an idea ..........if I undo and pull the twin disc splitter aside the front paddock stand might fit under the headstock?

Can't say I fancy your method of using the sidestand - anyway, I've got no mates!

O well if you have a centre stand = no problem aye .....unless your exhaust fouls it use ! ! I thought you never had one...so my suggestion was just get out of jail . By the way.... try changing your toothpaste and - or deodorant & all your mates might come back ... haha Cheers Bud.

All I do is
Put bike on center stand
Remove callipers from fork legs and support them with a bungie
Remove Speedo cable from front wheel
Lift the front mudguard and the bike will pivot back
Put something under exhaust/frame at the front
Undo the 4 nuts at the bottom of the forks
and the front wheel will simply drop out.

I strap the rear end down on my bench but a piece of wood and a couple of blocks the correct height under the exhaust is easiest. Put the wood under the exhaust before you undo the 4 nuts though.

You could put something heavy on the pillion seat if you want which helps.

If you let the air out the tyre it helps get it out from under the mudgaurd,
You don't need to take the spindle out, but if you do, undo it once you've loosened the 4 nuts but before fully removing them. Leave the spindle in place until the wheels out.
