Z1A (USA spec) wiring loom

#1 PostAuthor: Bill Newman » Wed Apr 18, 2018 9:11 pm

Does anyone know if the blue with red trace is joined to a single blue and a single red wire inside the loom at the point where the r/h switch loom passes the headstock before it joins the main loom beside the coils?
The sheathing has perished on mine and while looking to repair it I have found what looks like an obvious break but cannot verify this joint on the wiring diagram.
Thoughts?

Hi Bill

the red and the blue wires which are joined in the main loom continue into a blue wire for the current for the meter lights.
The blue-red wire gives current to the oil lamp in the dashboard and is not connected to the joined wires described above.
Are you sure that the blue-red wire is an original wire? Look where it goes. Originally it's connected to the 9 pin socket that provides current to the dashboard and to the meter lights. If there are two blue-red wires the original blue wire was replaced sometime in the past .
Just to put things clear: the blue wire gives current to the meter lights, the blue-red wire gives current to the oil warning lamp.
Try to find some coloured wiring scheme on the web from a US Z1A. Things will become clear.
Good luck with it! Repairing electric wiring can be a real pain in the ***!
