registration date

My z1000 is a 1977 (ish) but on the V5 it states first registered in 2000 , and then first registered in uk 2000
can I get this changed to 1977 and if so how, does it qualify for free tax because the number plate is aged registered ... r reg

Re-apply for an age related plate by providing a 'certificate of date of manufacture' from VJMC.
Once you have the log book (and your bike is over 40 years old) you then need to get the V5 changed to 'historic' and then you don't need an MOT of road tax.

DVLA don't accept VJMC dating letters any more. They will only accept KHI proof of age. Also, DVLA will only accept originals not photocopies but they do return them.
You will need to contact KHI HQ UK and ask them for a letter. Be warned though, KHI do charge for it.

If the engine is not the one originally fitted to the bike when it left Japan you won't get a dating letter either.

DVLA don't accept VJMC dating letters any more.

Really? The why are VJMC still offering this service?
To quote their page:
"This is a VJMC UK service for Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency to meet their UK only Age Related Registration requirements"
"The VJMC is authorised to:-
Issue Age related certificates for Japanese motorcycles to help obtain a UK registration. This includes Imported and UK motorcycles that have lost their registrations, when the original registration can’t be proved."

Not sure mate. But DVLA will just return the application with "insufficient proof of manufacture date" stamped across it.

Just had a look on the .gov site. and it says this
"If you don’t have the original foreign registration certificate, DVLA might accept other proof of the manufacture date, eg a letter from the manufacturer or a vehicle enthusiast club."
All I know for sure is when I did one last year I ended up sending it 3 times and it was only the last time after phoning them that they said the requirements had changed and it needed to be from the manufacturer before sending back a v5.

I think it just seems to be pot luck. One thing is for sure, it's seems to be increasingly difficult to get a bike registered the first time....

Check on the front of the V5 in the "Special Notes" at the bottom of the page.
I have a 1000A import on a V plate and it states first registered 1991 and in the UK 1991 BUT in the special notes it says "First registered overseas.Declared manufactured 1980".
This is the proof of the age of the bike which will allow me to get VHI status in a couple of years or so.
Maybe yours is the same.

I have a z1000Ltd(B1) which is registered on a V plate ('79), but was was originally manufactured in 1977 and says so on the log book.
When I got the V5 I talked with DVLA about getting the proper age plate and they said I needed an age cert. I pointed out that by their own admission (on the V5) it shows the manufacture date. They said it was irrelevant...
I think arses and elbows spring to mind...

Suppose it depends on which idiot you get, Every time I ring then I get a different answer and last time you could hear them arguing in the background over what was the right info.
When the time comes if I don't get VHI based on the declared date I suppose i'll have just to pay KHI UK for proof.
Will be worth it in the long run with the tax hitting just under £90 now.

i had to do this because in my Z1000, V5 said date of first registion jul 1992.

I recently sent my UK registered z1000a1 v5 off to Swansea to change to historic, heard nowt after 6 weeks, phoned to check on progress, v5 not been received, presumed lost, please send another letter and payment for £25 to apply for a copy v5, so if you send documents down, send by registered post.

Straight to the post office and don't bother asking the numptys at dvla for advice first as they'll only f**k things up..
