Plugs!

#1 PostAuthor: King of Kings » Sat Apr 21, 2018 11:05 pm

Has anyone ever used BP6es in a Zed motor? Do they just blow up?

The "P" just means the inner electrode is a bit longer which helps to prevent fouling. B6 is a lot hotter than the original B8ES. NGK suggest going one hotter to B7ES to compensate for the softer riding style of classic bikes and cooler burning characteristics of modern ethanol fuel. I would be nervous about the damage risks from jumping two heat ranges.

Heat range aside, I would be more concerned about the projected nose of the BP6ES making contact with the top of the pistons.
Why do I persist in debating with idiots ? I really should know better :)

Uncertain if it actually reaches further into the combustion chamber but it would certainly need investigating.

King of kings, why are you thinking of changing from standard?

I know they do :)
THIS is why they are called projected nose ..... and why you should not use them unless recommended for the motor in question. (well not unless you are after lightening the piston crown at least)

My bad! I meant B6ES  just wanted to see if anyone had gone to that heat range? My bike takes modern CR series plugs anyway.

I am not really sure why you would need to go that hot. Personally, I would not risk it.

'P' Plugs are often used in 2 Stroke motors to keep the tip hotter and burn off oil deposits. I doubt they'll help in a 4 stroke motor but a slightly hotter plug will probably be better with modern fuels. From looking at plug specs for other makes of engine that have been around for a while, the later specs ask for hotter plugs so B7 rather than B8 would make sense.

This may help some of you in understanding what plug letters mean and how the heat gradings work
