If the pipes I think you talking about they are not vacuum pipes they are breathers. allows empty carb air to escape when you turn on the tap. On a 650 they are routed either back ino the air box or between frame and arm pivot with the overflow pipes.

Depending on which model carbs you have one of the stubbs may be a vacuum take off for a vac operated petrol tap, for non vac taps they are just breathers, the bung makes me think you have later A2 carbs.

They look like 28mm, does the bike run fine with the stubbs open, if so they are breathers, just stick your finger over the stubbs when running to check for vacuum.

Hi Trad1

the two pipes serve to let air get out of the float chamber. You can keep them short and bend them so they end after the carbs but make sure they point downwards in order to prevent water getting in. You can allso keep them long and then you guide them to the airfilterbox lid ( I don't think you still have one according to the pics) and let them end under the seat.
Anyway don't let them get clogged or the air won't get out of the float chambers.

Also get some decent tap to carb fuel tubing. That clear stuff goes hard and brittlle. Making it difficult to take on and off and will splitor break.
