z1000st carbs

#1 PostAuthor: Dunlop4 » Sun May 13, 2018 4:36 pm

I have a Uk model 1980 z1000st E2. I want to fit a set of carburetors of a kz 1000st us model fitted with accelerator pumps. My question is are these compatible with the vacuum fuel tap fitted fitted to the UK model.

If they are they will have a take off stub on number three carb, if not you can use one of the vacuum ports on the inlet stubs.

These carbs have 2 takes offs on carbs 2 and 4. This is different from the UK carbs which have 3 takes offs on carbs 2 and 4 and 3. Perhaps these carbs were not intended for a vacuum tap.

If this is the case where does the vacuum pipe go on to the carbs US version, from the vacuum fuel tap.

Make sure the accelerator pump carbs you have are definitely the 28mm ones identified by having just the one 4 bolt pump actually in use and the 3 bolt one an un-machined blank with no cover.
The 26mm ones which have both diaphragms functioning are the worst of all the carbs and need to be avoided like the plague.

the us version only has 2 rubber blanks on the inlet manifold rubbers so i presume the other two are vacuum take of for the fuel tap & accelerator pump

If you post pics of the back front and sides, we will be able to identify them quicker.

Yes! they are 28mm pumpers with no vac port.
Also used on some US Z1R and MK2.
Just hook the vac tap up to one of the inlet rubbers and when balancing with gauges either use a 'T' piece for the tap or run the engine on prime.

Are these a better than the UK model standard ones, without the accelerator pump. I am trying to decide to use these or the standard carbs?

They can be be better as they give an extra squirt of fuel on initial quick throttle openings.
