Z900 rear brake light (outage) switch

#1 PostAuthor: Andrew_s » Mon May 21, 2018 9:01 am

Been looking for a NOS rear brake light (outage) switch for the Z900, this is the one that fits into a 3 wire block-connector under tank.

Have spoken with Phil at Z Power and these haven’t been available for 20 years and are generally not available as old stock (nor are repros), so most owners just leave it off. However, I’m a bit anal on this stuff.

The OEM part number is 28019-001 and the Z400 unit is 28019-002 which seems to be available in the States - does anyone know if this unit would fit?

Don't know for sure but most 70's bikes used the same unit. z650's used a slightly smaller unit but does exactly the same job with the same con block. I got a nos "Yamaha" non branded one from ebay Germany for about £15 quid inc postage. Works just fine and has the same con block.

Thanks Warren, do you happen to know the part number on the Z650 or Yam unit?

Cheers

Thanks z1bman, there seems to be plenty of Z400 ones available in the States, but the wire colour coding is different - does anyone know if they work on the Zeds?

Cheers

I would imagine they would. Internally I would think they would be identicle and its unlikely KHI would use a different circuit to one they have on other bikes already in use. Probably just a wire colour change :?:

To my knowledge Andrew ,yes used a small one recently.think most of the Zed range use a similar unit though size differs.

Well, the NOS Z400 brake light switch relay (28019-002) arrived this morning and I've just fitted it and it works fine; comes on with front and back brake and also flashes with the bulb removed so I'm a happy bunny and I've just ordered another one as a spare! :D

The fitting is a bit Heath Robinson until I sort out a bracket:

The bracket hangs under the RH coil mounting bolt on mine & gets in the way when you take the cam cover off. Let me know if you'd like a picture of the bracket?

Thanks, that would be useful as I was wondering where/how it fitted.
