ELR CR29 setup?

#1 PostAuthor: RALPHARAMA » Mon May 21, 2018 3:30 pm

I have a friend who I got a set of CR29s for his '93 Z1000R2. It's running like a bag of shite with the baseline setup - really lean on the needles and mega rich on the mains. I don't know what needles were fitted, but the mains are 128s which would explain the richness on the large throttle opening. The bike has a fairly empty Harris pipe and stock air box. He's looking for a nice road ride, not balls out drag race settings.

Anyone got any sweet jetting suggestions for this bike?

It’s probably rich because of the stock air box the CRs are normally designed to run stacks I don’t think 128 would be massively rich without the air box. CRs can be tricky to set up, they don’t seem to respond well to vacuum gauges either. A Dyno is a big help rather than guessing

Thanks for your reply Chris.

The bike is at the dyno currently and the guy there says it's absolutely miles out. I balanced the carbs up when I fitted them with my electronic vacuum gauges and didn't have any issues; easier than Mikuni flat slides to be honest. I don't like bell mouths for road bikes as they suck all manner of crap in

Ralphy,

Just moved this to bike help.

I can't see the option of high performance carbs and the safety of an airbox go 'hand in hand'.

You could talk to Ray Debben @ Debben performance. He set my CR31 up. But they are fitted with velocity stacks and mesh.
