Age related plate

#1 PostAuthor: Wrigers » Fri Jun 01, 2018 2:42 pm

Chaps, I've just had all my paperwork returned to me by DVLA as I'm trying to register my A4 on an age related plate. The bike is an import from USA, and I have a letter from Kawasaki stating that the frame and engine numbers relate to an A5 1977.
DVLA are not happy with that, they want an exact month of manufacter, something which Kawasaki havnt got. They state ill get a Q plate if i carnt supply the excat date, something i didn't really want. Any advice would be welcome as to how i can find the exact date, ive contacted Kawasaki again and they state they can do an official letter if needed, but not with a date, only a year which is what i had originally . Paul.

Funny that, when I asked kawasaki for a letter confirming manufacture for my kz550, it came back with the actual day, month, year it was made, the only thing missing was am or pm.

Do the DVLA still accept Club dating certs?.

Hi Garry, funnily enough when I was discussing the matter with Mrs awkward she mentioned owners club's. Whether or not they accept dating certificates, if they do is it do able.

Kawasaki gave me a month and year on mine.

The yank bikes usually have a white headstock sticker giving that information too, unless someone has deliberately removed it.

Have you paid Kawasaki to date it on an official certificate, or just asked them casually ?
Why do I persist in debating with idiots ? I really should know better :)

Never thought of that. I had a new sticker made from the original by Rick Brett. It states 8..76
It was an official letter from Kawasaki, and they charged me £35 for good measure.

Back in the day suffixs changed in August so,you could have be looking at R or S which is probably the issue... they totally ignored that on mine though and gave me the wrong one

All Kawasaki said was that it was a 1977 model, you already know the date of manufacture from the sticker. The reg plate is issued when the bike goes on the road not when it leaves the factory. An American built A5 could have been on the road in the US by October or November 1976, but not necessarily - my Z1000 would Hvae left Kawasaki in late 1976 but it didn’t leave the bike shop until May 1978 and has a 1978 reg although as we had no suffix letter it’s not so easy to tell unless you’re familiar with the number system.

Thanks lads, just in general conversation with othr Jap owners, they recommend Vintage Japanese Owners Club, who do a proper dating service. Simply download and complete the form, send several photos of the bike, £35, and they will date it for you.
Ive gone down that route for now and ill report back on their service.

if you know the frame number its easy to tell from the build dates what month it was made.

surprised kawasaki didn't tell you the date more precisely.

see this thread.

Kawasaki UK for your dating document fee should go to the records back in Japan and tell you what day and date that the engine and frame were made, that's if they were produced on the same day. They will not issue a certificate if they weren't.
The fee you paid seems wrong as I paid £54.00/bike in 2013 when I got documents from them for my Z1s

Wrigers,
Same headed letter but mine stated the actual date when the bikes were manufactured.
I spoke to Alan Lunn, Technical service advisor at KMUK.
Regards
Steve.
