Guyz,Changing out rear pads on z thou disc brake, new pads 9mm thick overall would not go in without bad binding on rotor, pistons are defo all the way back in level with dust seal lip, caliper is dead central to rotor which is 7.5mm thick and not warped, old pads are 7mm thick overall and 1mm from wear limit step, shims are present, any sage advice or anyone else had this?

have you got enough free play in the actuator rod between the lever & master cylinder? is there too much fluid in the master cylinder ? does it free up if you slacken the wheel nut ?

Correct free play in the rod,mc at correct level, have not tried loosening spindle nut, have measured gap between pistons going back fully level with dust seal lip, to see if enough gap with 9mm pads, plus shims, plus disc thickness 7.5mm,seems 2mm too much, would need to lose shims or pads would need to be 8mm,rotor is bang in middle of caliper with equal clearance both sides,Thanks for trying to help,

are the pistons hollow or do they have a heat sink disk pressed into the piston ?

the a1 uses the hollow type piston the one with the heat sink disc is only used for bikes that use sintered metal pads which are not as thick as normal pads

Excellent info, that explains the conundrum, pistons were listed for A1 and A2 as are the different pads, what thickness are the sintered pads? looks like getting a set of those is the answer..Thanks for that...Paul j
