smoking exhaust

#1 PostAuthor: johnA » Fri Jun 22, 2018 9:15 pm

hello gents i finally got round to starting my gpz1100 after the winter lay up today and the left hand side exhaust is smoking quite a bit and it didn't before the lay up. any ideas what could be causing it the bike was on its centre stand all winter. i didn't bother taking it for a run as the battery decided to die as well.
many thanks in advance john

possibly valve seals but i would ride it for a couple of hundred miles before you start to worry if it still has its fuel injection still fitted ? if it has been converted to carbs they would be the first port of call

White/blue smoke = oil burning.
It's common when the bike has been stood for a while and it should clear up after a few miles.
If not it's most likely the stem seals on their way out.
Not a big problem until you start using more oil than petrol and you resemble one of the red arrows tearing down the high street.
