My 900 hardly ever gets used and last time I forgot to drain the bowls or run with the tap off until it cut out. When I used it last week fuel pissed out the overflow on all four carbs. Im guessing that the float hinges or needles got gummed with fuel residue and the floats were stuck with the needles open. so I shut the fuel off, started the bike and left it to run. when the it started to cough I opened the tap again, when it started to overflow turned the tap off, and repeated until no overflow. after 3 bowls of fuel everything was moving again and no more leaks.

A few months shouldn't be an issue. For longer periods I would drain the carbs and put some fuel additive in the tank. I use Seafoam.

you then will not get any problems My RD400f sat for 18 months and started 3 kik it would have been the second but i for got to turn the kill switch to run

Funny this subject, every year I put my petrol mower away for the winter, never drain it or fill the tank, every spring it comes out of store, freezing in winter, but always starts on second pull, never leaks, but then it's not a kawasaki

Strangely my zed has stopped leaking from the float bowls, I guess it was something to do with very hot weather

Guys the problem with the carbs overflowing has completely stopped now.

I did run the carbs dry knowing I wouldn't be using the bike for some time.

I did have an additive in the tank.

The petrol stopped overflowing immedialtly after first start so im guessing the gaskets had dried out.

as other member said, run it on shell v power, it will be fine over summer and even longer tho 10 mins to drain carbs well worth it, personally I run it low, drain the carbs and stick a gallon of aspen fuel in it, it has no ethanol, virtually none of the other nasties, and you can leave it for couple of years at least with no starting or carb gumming issues, if you fill the tank with aspen only, you don't even have to drain the carbs, I have and had no probs after well over a year in storage, great stuff, but expensive

Hey Gonzo, i'm the tight scot, and I am willing to pay it, so must be worth it!

Aspen used to have a wee stand at Stafford, they would throw a handful of polystyrene chips like you use for packing in ordinary petrol, and they would dissolve before your eyes, aspen didn't attack it at all.

The main market is for landscapers using petrol powered strimmers, hedge cutters etc, they reckon the operators were inhaling really bad quantities of harmful chemicals, and aspen has virtually none.
