Hi chaps, just been reading the method of adjusting the pilot air screw, individually whilst on tickover.
A4 carbs, and had the plugs out again today, and it still a bit rich.
Manual states set tickover to 800..1000, and adjust indivually turning both directions until tickover is right. Anyone done it???. Just thought id try it. Manuel setting is 1 and 3/8 turns out, but surly this is just an average setting.

TOO RICH ! best check first..... Ignition Timing is correct - Air Screw tips in good shape = undamaged - Air Filter clean - Float bowl / Fuel heights set correctly - B8ES plugs in good nick & gapped at 28 thou- Choke plunger units & seals etc all in good shape - If yes to all- set the air screws at about 1.25 turns out & tick over at about 1100rpm .....as generally 800 to 1000 is a bit too low & will promote an uneven and noisey (from the clutch ) tick over . Cheers.
