Points or Electronic ignition

#1 PostAuthor: Wayne1960 » Mon Aug 27, 2018 2:40 pm

Those of you that have helped me in the past will know i have been reluctant to move with the times with my restore but I'm starting to question some of my desertions.

So should i stick with the traditional points or should i for all the right reasons invest in electronic ignition?

If yes then what is the must have product?
Just purchased a 1976 UK Z900 A4 for renovation. Wish me luck.

is that a straight swap out of points. All my coils and leads are new.

The only real benefit of changing to electronic ignition is lack of maintenance needed.

If you decide to change, Dyna S would be my recommendation too. Very straightforward to swap out and will work with standard coils.

there is even a 'how to ' on the site. very easy to do. Just swap points plate, connect and time up.

For Dyna s - Main advantage - as has been said - is lack of maintenance.
Main disadvantage is if it goes wrong - employing a 'get you home' fix will not be easy.
Having said that - Both the original points and the Dyna s are known to be fairly trouble free.

I have dyna coils and the original points system on both my bikes & never had an issue in this area.
pays your money & takes your choice !

Run oem points and condensors on all my bikes without trouble or excessive maintenance. They worked fine then and continue to do so now.
