Motobatt Failure
Is there any reason why a Motobatt should fail to hold it's charge suddenly.
It's only a couple of years old but drains down to less than 11 v in about a week without charging.

Are you sure it's the battery not holding the charge or is something draining it?

Re: Motobatt Failure
I=e had a couple do that. Just ordered my first lithium battery to see how that goes.
Re: Motobatt Failure

The motobatt on my green zed that padders bought has been on it for ten years without being charged
Re: Motobatt Failure
All batteries will eventually discharge themselves, on or off the bike. If allowed to go too far they will fail completely and need to be replaced. I constantly swap a maintenance charger between bikes to keep them sweet

I've recently looked into these, so I'd be keen to hear how this goes.
What did you order and from where?

Re: Motobatt Failure
They are not very good, need to be plugged into a Optimate or similar if not used for more than a couple of weeks.

Re: Motobatt Failure
I was under the impression that lithium iron batteries (not lithium "ion") didn't lose charge as quickly as lead-acid or gel?

Re: Motobatt Failure
Unusual for one to fail that way, would fully charge and see if the same when disconnected or put an ammeter in series and see if any current drain, when they fail they just usually totally fail(in my experience).

Re: Motobatt Failure
Must be shorted internally as the charger won't charge it up....just flashes in error mode.

Think you were right Chris. Will not take a charge at all. Replaced with another Motobatt (38 quid from M&P !!) and all good since.
