I'm about halfway through the refurb of my newly acquired Harris and as funds are tight I'm having to use what I believe are z1000j 34mm cv carbs, now I realise these aren't ideal and a set of smoothbores would be better but funds don't allow this at the moment (unfortunately missed out on a set of 33mm smoothbores last night on eBay)so my question is should I give the z1000 carbs a go or do I try a set of 33mm cv carbs from a gsx750f lurking from an old project? The zed carbs are currently fitted with 130 mains and what appears to be an old Ledar air corrector kit. Would the Gsx carbs be a better starting point. The Harris if fitted with an 1135 kit and has a gas flowed head.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Probably going to be harder to set up the CV carbs IMHO. But if that's all you've got them you have nothing to lose but your patience if you give them a try.

Yup totally agree, just wondered if the cv's off the gsx would be a better starting point or the cv's from the zed.
Hopefully a set of smoothbore's may turn up meantime at the right price

CV carbs are always tricky to setup without the original airbox, if you were prepared to pay an expert and for dyno time, you could probably get the pretty good.
However, for that money you could buy some smoothbores or flatslides and they'd be much easier to setup 'out of the box' IMHO, but still not without potential issues.

These would do the job nicely. @ £500 but not sure of your budget.

I had a look at those last night after losing out on the 33mm smoothbores (went for £321 in the end, I was a bit slow on the button by a couple of seconds lol), so unfortunately around the 300 mark is about my limit at the moment.

same seller has these also, which will work - but will need a good clean and rebuild for £300 - makes me think the TM33 carbs for £500 would be a better deal.

Yes! Those VM30's should work well enough.

As Rob says yes they will do the job.
