My Z has developed a oil leak. The from of the engine has a mist of oil all over it but I can’t see where it’s coming from. Also oil is dripping from the alternator where the wires come out. Any ideas?

Rev counter drive ? Put some good clear sealant on around the alternator grommet !

I put loads of sikaflex around it when I fitted new wires. Itmust of broken down a bit. So there should be oil getting into alternator then ? Rev counter pick up isn’t leaking at all.

the alternator is running in oil! When you dismount the cover you'll see a few holes in the lower cranckcase, that's where the oil comes from.
When taking the altornator casing off the engine and taking the grommet out of the casing, clean the grommet very carefully, slide it a few centimeters over the wires away from the alternator, put some sealant on the wires and slide the grommet back into place. Put the grommet back in the casing and apply some sealant around it. When putting the alternator cover back on the engine use a NEW gasket and make sure it's correctly seated in place.
If that doesn't solve the problem you'll have to discover where the oil comes from .

Grab the Wifes talcum powder and dust the engine ,you should see tracks of the leak,alternator leak is an old favourite,remove clean area in barke or carb cleaner and use Kawabond or Rtv to seal a new grommet.New gasket for the alternator cover,put bike on sidestand and you can get away with not draining the oil...Paul J
