Hi,
I've just bought the candy yellow Z1 from 'the bike specialists', I've had chance to put a few miles on over the weekend and am really pleased with it,
The only issue is the fuel tap, (there are 2 pipes coming from the tap, one goes to 2 carbs, the other pipe to the other 2 carbs)

when in OFF position - fuel is off,
when in ON position - no fuel flow (can see in-line filter),
in RESERVE position - fuel flows, and bike runs perfectly,

I do not know anything about classic bike, and I've look at the forum and read about vacuum etc,
I tried turning the tap to ON while riding but it just spluttered to a halt,
The bike is under warranty but just wondered if I'm missing anything before I ring them,

Is the fuel level low?

I put 5 litre in when the bike arrived, (read the hand book that said the reserve was at 4 litre), went to the petrol station after a run and put another 5 litre in,
maybe I should fill it right up,

The reserve is below 4 litres so you have more than enough for the 'ON' position. You almost certainly have a blockage in the fuel tap main pipe/filter

Has the fuel tap been apart?
Maybe a previous owner restored the tap and put the rubber bung in the wrong way which would mess up the 3 position flow via the hole pattern in the bung.

You may have a pattern black tap fitted which were never very good.
If it's the original tap them maybe there is a problem with the rubber insert as John mentioned.
The rubber inserts for the original tap are not available anymore.
On the plus side,it's not leaking.
It would be good to see some photos of the bike which looked very nice in the advert.

thanks everybody for your advice, Yes Steve it is a black repo tap, I've taken Robs kind offer (above) to have a look as he's just up the road,
I'm still tip-toeing around on it at the moment as I'm a novice on motorbikes, (it took me 4 days to get the knack of putting it on the main stand !!!!!)

I do believe that the latest version of the repro Z1 black tap are more reliable but It will be in good hands with Rob.

it seems like the author/new member is merely asking for advice to understand the anomaly.,not trying to fix it :the price paid for the bike is irrelevant and the warranty provider may be hundreds of miles away? either way, if he paid F'all for a shitty old clunker; i'm sure the good folk mentioned above would still be willing to help n donate their time n efforts.
