GPZ1100 b2 buckets -will they be OK in a Z900 ???

#1 PostAuthor: johny brando » Sun Oct 28, 2018 6:30 am

Hi guys can any one help or shed some light please ? Can any one tell me if 1982-3 GPZ1100 or ZX1100 valve BUCKETS will work as direct replacements on & in a 1975 900 ? as they seem to run the same 29mm shims & look similar / same ...... BUT they seem to carry a different part numbers i.e Z1 -Z900 = 12032-005 & the GPZ 1100 / XZ1100 = 12032-1002 . Doe's any one have and info on this, or has any one run them as direct replacements in a Z1/ Z900 engine ??? Thanks for any incoming info and help . Johny B.

EDIT. Reread the post and the title says B series. It was the A series that went under bucket. So they may work as Rob says below.

It's not an uncommon mod but pointless on a road bike. ( Some say a waste of time on a race engine as well)

You can use the Unitrack buckets but you need to use the smaller 13mm under bucket shims and retainers also ( same as the Z650 ) .
All the other GPZ1100's and 1000J use z900 type shim on top buckets and 29mm shims so i'd stick with those and avoid the inconvenience of having to pull the cams at every shim swap .
Even though it has under bucket shims the Z1100A Unitrack doesn't actually need them as the cam profile is not that aggressive.

I may have read this wrongly, but isn't the OP referring to GPZ1100 b buckets which run the 29mm shims on top the same as the 1000J ?
Will these work in a much earlier model ?
