Engine restoration
Hi folks, just bought a z900 1976 and was wondering what to use to bring up the engine block without removing it ? I'm my day it was just autosol and elbow grease . Any advice welcome as I canna afford vapour blasting and such like . Cheers Mike
Re: Engine restoration
I recommend giving it a good de-grease with something like Jizer and then a good soapy wash.
The buy some 'Mothers' and use a toothbrush and/or small paint brush with short bristles to rub it into the metal. Do it in 3 inch square blocks. Leave it on for 10 minutes, the brush it again and then use a cloth to remove.
Brings it up all pretty good.
I've done this on my last few 900s and it has worked well:

Re: Engine restoration
Putoline Chain & engine degreaser (expensive BUT it works) then a scotch pad, a tube of Autosol and a very large tub of elbow grease..... then get rubbing.
Wrap the pad around a flat blade screwdriver to get into the fins.
An old Z1B I used to own.
Before
After....
As said, it takes lots of time and effort. Also, having no life what-so-ever helps as well.

That's the second time in two days you've made me laugh Garry.L... and my 9 year old son loves your gif image. 'Look at that dad!'
More to the point, very impressive polishing. I'll try and get my KZ1000 engine to look somewhere near the same.

Re: Engine restoration
Excellent results Garry.
Point of note: Mothers is not just an abrasive paste (like Solvol) it's got some chemicals in it which help to eat away the grime. So you can get good results without having to resort to wire wool as well.
