New Year, New Shiny Bits!

Folks;

While the bike's still tucked up in the warm(ish) garage I thought it might be time for a couple of new bits, so - new shocks and exhaust are on the bill. The question is, which ones? For shocks, I'm thinking either Hagon or YSS Z-series (Ohlins or suchlike are a bit of a step too far). Also, I have been looking at the Delkevic stainless pipe (the straight one rather than megaphone). Or should I be waiting until the new stainless Harris arrives (although it'll probably be a fair bit more expensive!). All thoughts/comments/random opinions welcome.

Cheers, Grog

You can get a stainless steel Harris replica from this guy who is a club member.

What about a set of KONI shocks (very 70's / 80's)... or the new version, IKON?

Good shout Adrian H, had seen them mentioned before, but forgotten about exhaustcraft. Will drop them a line and see what they say. Gonzo, got a set of (very old) Konis on now, are the IKONs OK quality-wise? Opinion seems a bit mixed.

Cheers, Grog

Can't say what the new IKON's are like compared to the original KONI's but what I'm looking into, currently, is sending my old KONI's to this lot for a refurb...

Nice idea, but a refurb on mine would pretty much amount to building a new pair of shocks! :D

I bought a set of Ikons from Australia donkeys years ago before they were available here, they’re on my brother’s Z1B currently and have never given any trouble, quality was good, unless they’ve changed...

I know a couple of guys with yss shocks that use them for classic trackdays and they have been pleased with them.

Hi Grog
as far as the rear shocks are concerned, it all depends on what you're planning to do with your bike.
If you want to ride it in a decent way, concerning speed limits etc, you can easily go on hagon shocks. If you want to adjust your shocks more often or refine the road behavioure of your bike, go for the Ikon shocks.
If you want to race it...mount the best shocks or even better: buy a newer bike. :whoa
Remember the classic Z is 40 years old or older, depending on what type you have. :eek

Folks;

Thanks for the replies; just seen another thread on here which mentions the Delkevic might rob a bit of power, but like the ability to keep the centre stand - bike (Z1R) already runs K&Ns with a corrector kit, braced frame, Metmachex arm and (mostly) VF front forks/brakes. I like the look and sound of the Delkevic, but not if it's going to strangle the engine. Still got to talk to Exhaustcraft to see what they say. Riding is mainly Highlands, so - roads that vary from billiard table to cart track, and very few speed limits (or at least ones that are policed...), although my self-preservation muscle twitches more often the older I get! Are the YSS worth the extra money over Hagon/IKON I guess is the question there. Cheers for the thoughts, TTFN Grog.
