irregular Idle 73 Z1

#1 PostAuthor: nick sanderson » Sun Jan 20, 2019 9:03 am

Colud anyone point me in the right direction.
Once the idle has been set when hot when I rev it and let it idle the revs increase by about 500-1000 rpm .
After 20 seconds the idle settles to the original setting, the bike carburates without issue anywhere else through the rev range.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Nick
did you do an initial synchronisation of the carbs? Are the floats at the correct hight? Did you change the old intake rubbers between the carbs and the cylinderhead? If not, the engine could have extra air succed in.
Did you cleaned and lubricated the automatic ignition advancer and have the springs of it still the correct tension?
A lot of questions I know but there are so many things to take into account.

Most common cause of hanging idle is incorrect cable adjustment (especially too tight on the pull) which does give the symptoms you mention so that is the first thing to check
There must be a small amount of slack in each cable to ensure they are not pulling against each other at rest.
If rolling the throttle hard closed drops the revs then that will be your problem,

I had an R100GS that had the same symptoms. It turned out to be running lean at idle.
