Its a bit of an odd ball Mark. Z1 frame and Engine with Bimota bits all over it.

Hi guys
Z1F-100685 is according to me a Z900A4 framenumber. Manufactured in januari 1976. Sorry to burst the bubble.
Or are my eyes getting that bad? It could be an Italian bike. A star before and after the frame number identifies it as Italian... Can't see the star in front of it due to the clutch cable, only behind. Sorry if I'm wrong and in that case I urgently need a pair of glasses .

Try that again! missed out a zero or two! Yep looks like a 76. First I've heard about the star denoting "Italian" how accurate is that info source Phillippe?

I have seen Italian frames with multiple „star“ possibilities. One up front, or one at the rear, and with one up front and one at the rear. My Italian 74 only has a star in front of the frame number.

Owned several Italian reg Zeds & Triples and all had the 'Star' in front of the numbers...

Ok, looks like the italian link is the only bit of info that jibes true with the guys description of it then. Its not early and its not a matching numbers bike as the engine number is over 10k away from the frame number but hey, it was/is Italian.
Kinda kills my interest.
